Your Kingdom Come V

Pastor Phil Vance

Highlights:

  1. Five Things about the Coming Messiah

    1. He was to be born a child, a son.

    2. He will rule over God’s people and the world as King.

    3. He will have four descriptive names that will reveal His character.

      1. Wonderful Counselor

      2. Mighty God

      3. Everlasting Father

      4. Prince of Peace

    4. He will be seated on David’s throne Forever.

    5. This will all be accomplished by the zeal of the Lord Almighty.

  2. Our King is different than any other KIng. He is ultimately benevolent even to the point of dying for HIs people.

  3. King Jesus is the only one who can truthfully articulate the truth to you!

Discussion Questions:

  1. How is our King Jesus unlike any other King?

  2. In what ways does our culture and society “Mock” Jesus by making fun of Him, pretending that He is not what He is by imitating Him in a distorted manner?

  3. Pastor Phil said, “Jesus takes the stress out of stress.” How do you access the peace that is in Jesus?

  4. This, the revelation of a King born to us, will be accomplished by the Zeal of the Lord! How is this Zeal being expressed through you this Christmas season?

Key Scriptures, Quotes and Definitions:

Isaiah 9:6-7

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom. To order it and establish it with judgement and justice from that time forward, evern forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

Matthew 27: 27-31

“Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers round him. They sripped him and put a scarlept rove on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand. Then they knelt in front of Him and mocked Him, “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.

Mocked: to make fun of someone by pretending that he is not what he is or by imitating him in a distorted manner.

John 18: 33-38

“Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, calle Jesus; and said to HIm, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered him, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from here.” Pilate therefore said to HIm, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world. That I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.” Pilate said to HIm, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.”

Wonderful: Exceptional or Distinguished. It actually means miracle

Counselor: Advisor

Peace: Shalom -safe, well, happy. (friendly, healthy)

Luke 2: 8-14

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in the cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
