Your Kingdom Come III (The Keys to the Kingdom )

Pastor Phil Vance

Highlights:

  1. Getting the keys is when you start taking ownership. Using the keys is when you start taking possession.

  2. Eight Realities of the Kingdom

    1. Before Jesus was born the Kingdom was his purpose.

    2. Jesus was Kingdom minded from a young age.

    3. Jesus was kingdom minded when He started his ministry.

    4. Jesus sent his 12 disciples out to do Kingdom ministry.

    5. Jesus sent the 70 out to do Kingdom ministry

    6. Jesus sends all of us out with Authority to do Kingdom-Ministry

    7. Jesus gives all of us the power to do Kingdom Ministry

    8. Jesus tells us the gospel of the kingdom needs to be preached to the whole world.

    9. The spiritual Kingdom becomes the physical Kingdom of God.

  3. We need both power and authority to see the Kingdom advance.

    1. Power without authority = messy

    2. Authority without power = ineffective

    3. Power with authority = world change

  4. We have been directed by Jesus to:

    1. Make disciples

    2. Baptize them

    3. Teach them the Bible

Discussion Questions:

  1. What areas of God’s Kingdom here on earth has He given you keys to? To what degree are you exercising ownership and possession of those areas of His Kingdom?

  2. Discuss together the truth that we must have both power and authority to see the Kingdom advance. How do we increase in both power and authority? What scriptures relate to these truths?

  3. In our part of the world, that area you have influence on, to what degree is the gospel being preached as we respond to our mandate to be a part of bringing the Kingdom here on earth?

Key Scriptures and Quotes:

Luke 2: 48-50  “When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” 49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[a] 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them”.

Matthew 16:19 “19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[b] loosed in heaven.”

Luke 1:31-33 “31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Matthew 9: 35-38 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Power: dunamis miraculous power, a miracle itself

Authority: exousia in the sense ability, privilege, force, capacity competency, freedom, or mastery, superhuman, potentate, token of control, delegated influence.

Matthew 28: 18-20 “18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

1 Corinthians 4:20 “20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.”
