Jesus Is

Pastor Phil Vance

Highlights:

  1. The more you exercise your faith the stronger your faith will become and the more audacious you will be for God!

  2. We must shift from trusting self and trusting circumstances to trusting God.

  3. The water of God reveals the potential that lies hidden in the deserts of the dry places of our lives.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Pastor Phil asked, “When was the last time you took your faith for a good jog?” Do the opportunities to exercise your faith come at your own initiation? When was the last time you chose to take a step of faith?

  2. From an eternal perspective, what does what your are going through now look like? How does this perspective change how you feel about your present circumstances?

  3. Martha says to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” What has happened in your life that seemed to be absent of the presence of God? What hope does the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead speak to you about those situations in your life that seemed to lack God’s presence?

Key Scriptures, Quotes and Definitions:

John 11; 21-27

21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Ephesians 2: 1-6

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
