“Jesus Is”

Part 1: Who Do You Say That He Is

Pastor Phil Vance

Highlights:

Jesus is:

The Word

The Creator

The LIfe

The Light

When our walk with God becomes cumbersome and uncomfortable, we need to re-evaluate what it is that we are pursuing.

Jesus, the Word, put God’s words into context – into reality – into relationship by becoming flesh so we can know and understand God!

Jesus is full of grace and full of truth.

Nine evidences that the Bible is true:

The Unity of the Bible

The Bible’s Indestructibility and Popularity

Accuracy of the Manuscripts

Scientific Accuracy

The Contribution to Archaeology

The Sacrifice of Millions

The Transforming Power

The Resurrection of Christ

The Fulfillment of Biblical Prophecy

Truth is not your perception:

Your perception is your perception.

Truth is truth only when it is the truth.

Discussion Questions:

Who do you say that Jesus is, today? What does your life, your actions and thoughts, say about who Jesus is?

How can having a relationship with Jesus, the word became flesh, affect our relationship with God’s written word, the Bible?

Pastor Phil said, “Truth is truth only when it is the truth.” What do you consider to be a source of truth? What tests do you put information through before you are willing to accept it as truth. What authority do you give to scripture as a source of truth and why?

Key Scriptures, Quotes, and Definitions:

-Mark 8:27-29 “Now Jesus and HIs disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi, and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?” So they answered, “John the Baptist, but some say, Elijah: and others, one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

-Lizy, the floaty and the life jacket illustration.

-John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through HIm, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
