After the Resurrection What’s Next?

Pastor Phil Vance

Highlights:

Jesus asks:

“Why are you weeping?” Paraphrased (What’s going on in you, because I care?)

“Who are you seeking?” Seeking Jesus brings peace.

An encounter with Jesus replaces confusion with comfort.

An encounter with Jesus brings clarity in tough situations.

Jesus asks two more questions:

Why are you troubled?

Why do doubts arise in your hearts?

Doubt comes when you discuss things with the Devil. Faith comes when you handle things with God.

In the natural, seeing is believing, IN the spiritual, believing is seeing.

Conviction changes a lifestyle.

Jesus shows up in our confusion to bring comfort, clarity, confidence, conviction, challenge, and courage.

Discussion Questions:

Jesus asked Mary, “Who are you seeking?” If Jesus were to put the same question to you, what would you say?

The men on the road to Emmaus said, “Did not our hearts burn within us as while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” How is God burning in your heart and coming alive through scripture as He shows you that He is present and transcendent in your life’s situations and circumstances?

Peter had the crow of a rooster to remind him of his failure in being steadfast in his beliefs and convictions. What is the rooster crow in your life? The Lord restored Peter, what has He done to restore you so you can walk with conviction again?

What are your convictions? What will you stay by, stand by, live and die by because of what Jesus has done for you?

What do you believe would change if you had a fresh encounter with Christ?

Key Scriptures, Quotes and Definitions:

John 20: 1-2 and 10-18 “Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciples, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they laid Him.”…..

Luke 24:18-21,27,30-32 “”Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have ou not known the things which happened there in these days?” And He said to them, “What things?” So they said to HIm, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel……”And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning HImself.”

Luke 24:33-40 “So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem , and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He as known to them in the breaking of bread. Now as they said these things, Jesus HImself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. And He said to them, “Why are you troubled?”

Troubled: G5015 tarasso: To stir, agitate, roil- to make turbid by stirring up the sediment or dregs. Rile- make someone annoyed or irritated.

John 21:3 “Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.”…..

Acts 1:8-9 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
