Glory Bound

Pastor Phil Vance

February 25, 2018

Highlights:

We are called and enabled to live in glory because of the gospel.

Glory now is the result of Christ’s work on the cross.

Glory costs but it’s worth the expense.

In the obstacles and difficulties that we grow through, God uses it in a way that ties it together with His glory.

Glory Changes Us

First change comes with Justification (My spirit is saved) (Happens at salvation)

Second change comes with Sanctification (My soul is being saved) (Happens throughout your lifetime)

Third change comes with Glorification (My body will be saved) (Happens at the end of your life.)

We started off in the image of God.

The fall complicated it, salvation restores it, Heaven completes it.

Heaven’s Glory Changes:

From corruptible to incorruptible

From mortal to immortal (deathlessness)

From illumination by sunlight to illumination by the Glory of God

Discussion Questions:

How does seeing God’s glory through our sufferings and difficulties produce an appreciation and gratitude for present circumstances? What effect does that gratitude have on you?

Discuss how heaven’s glory differs from earth’s glory?

What do you most look forward to about Heaven?

Key Scriptures, Quotes and Definitions:

“To which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 2:14

“The Spirit HImself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with HIm, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the suffering of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory of which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8: 17-18

“But may the God of all grace, who called us to HIs eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while.” 1 Peter 5:10

A while: Strong’s G3641 (oligos) means: puny in extent, degree, number, duration or value

“You will guide me with our counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. “ Psalm 73: 24-25

“But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” Acts 7:55-56

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

“Now this I say, brethren that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed and in a moment, in the twinkling of an ey, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed, For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15

“And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.” Revelation 21:10-11
