Don’t Shhh the Truth
December 6, 2015
Highlights:
1. The suppression of the truth makes God mad. It arouses his passion when truth is suppressed. Shhhh. God is violently opposed to those who suppress the truth.
2. If we continue to suppress the truth, God will let us have it, our life, our way. He will let go.
3. The number one target of attack for the devil is our sexuality.
Discussion Questions:
1. When it comes to fighting God for control, why is God willing to let us go so that we can have life our own way?
2. What do you do about uncomfortable truth? Many people were uncomfortable with the way Jesus lived and what he taught. What is the right response when we are struggling with a Biblical truth?
3. Pastor Phil said, “When it comes to truth, it may be less about what we say and more about how we say it.” What positions or truths do you believe in passionately? How are you saying it and does your tone, method, timing and word choice line up with the love and grace we have received from Jesus?
Key Scriptures and Quotes:
-Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.
2 Timothy 3:8 NIV
-The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Romans 1:18-25 NIV
-The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1 NIV
