Living Free

Message Title: A Faith-Filled Stewardship Adventure – Living Free

Speaker: Pastor Phil

Highlights:

  • To LIVE FREE was God’s design for us in the beginning in the Garden. But when Adam sinned he LOST his FREEDOM and he and all of Creation became a Slave of SIN

  • BUT GOD sent his SON Jesus Christ to do one thing, SET MAN FREE AGAIN

  • We are to study and “Hold to” the Truth

  • Sin deceives by promising freedom, when all it does is control and corrupt us

  • Our FREEDOM also includes freedom from debt

  • God knew the Power of Debt and therefore put into his Commands the Year of Jubilee

  • One KINGDOM people are FREE

They are generous with God’s stuff

They hear his Voice and Obey with their TIME, TALENTS,           and TREASURE

They hear from God, do what he says and get in on the                 ADVENTURE

Discussion Questions:

  • What is your Kingdom philosophy?

  • One Kingdom – It is all MINE (I sit on the throne)

  • Two Kingdoms – Some of it is God’s and the rest is mine (I sit in a chair next to the throne)

  • One Kingdom – ITS ALL GOD’S (I sit at the footstool)

  • What are some areas of your life where you are trying to sit on the throne?

  • How can you hand control of those areas back to Jesus?

  • How do we seek after, study, and HOLD ON TO the truth?

Key Scriptures, Quotes and Definitions:

  • John 8:31-36

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you ?abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the ?truth, and ?the truth shall make you free.”

33 They answered Him, ?“We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, ?whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And ?a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 ?Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

  • Luke 4:16-21

16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

18 “The ?Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me ?to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To ?set at liberty those who are ?oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is ?fulfilled in your hearing.”

  • Galatians 5:1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

  • Psalm 99:5

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool – He is holy.

  • Luke 19:28-38 28

After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ”

32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
