    1. Jesus is our High Priest

      1. The wrath of God is on sin. This is a present tense reality.

      2. The sacrifice of Jesus is both our propitiation and expiation.

    2. Jesus was in every way, tempted as we are. He understands our struggle.

    3. Our command is to come BOLDLY to the Throne of Grace.

  2. Discussion Questions:

    1. We often think of Jesus as the one who makes us right with God. In light of the truth that the wrath of God is on our sin, what does it mean to you that He is also the scapegoat for our sin?

    2. Does “Boldly” describe the way that you approach the throne of grace? What keeps us from approaching the throne of grace with boldness? Why does God’s description of how we are to come to Him matter so much?

    3. The wrath of God is on our sin but God made the first move to rectify that problem. In what ways is God calling you to make a move toward Him?

    1. Hebrews 4: 14-16

      1. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[a] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

    2. Propitiation: the act of appeasing the wrath of God.  Goat #1

    3. Expiation: the act of atoning for sin and removing it from the sinner – Goat #2

      1. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

    11. Mercy: Not getting what you do deserve.

    12. Grace: Getting what you don’t deserve.
