Pastor Phil Vance

HIghlights:

You are not defined by what has been done to you, but by what Christ has done for you.

Jesus didn’t come to fix you up, but to make you a new creation.

We don’t to be defined by what happened to us but by who lives in us.

God didn’t come to only change the way we feel, He came to change and reshape our minds, the very way we think.

The enemy lies to us. He makes us think that he is doing us a favor by making our baggage easier to carry when, the truth is, we were not made to carry baggage at all.

Discussion Questions:

What does it mean to you that God does not view you as a fixer upper but rather as something brand new? What ramifications does this truth have on the way you treat the past?

Pastor Phil talked about the old, the things that are no longer fresh in our lives. What is the Lord making new in your life? Is He transforming it or trashing it to start over?

Have you felt the temptation to refuse the work of God in your life by trying to redefine Him? How has God proven to you that He is the unchangeable one and you are the one who needs to change?

Key Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, od things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.”

Ephesians 4:22-24 “That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Lamentations: 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
