What Happens When I Die?

Highlights:

1. What happens after you die depends on what happens before you die.

2. The Bible is abundantly clear, for the saved, they go directly into the presence of the Lord.

3. For the unbeliever, death brings an experience of unending concious punishment.
– the punishment is eternal
– the body is raised at the Great White Throne Judgement.
– the unsaved are then cast into the lake of fire where they will resode forever, eternally seperated from the presence of Almighty God.

4. You and only you will determine what eternal place you will live in.

Discussion Questions:

1. Pastor Phil said, “What happens after you die depends on what happens before you die.” What does this mean?

2. When you think about the end of your life, what thoughts do yoy havr, what emotions do you experience and why?
– Read 1 Corinthians 15: 51-57 together. What will you not feel anymore if your eternity is heaven?

3. Who’s eternity has God given you the ability to speak into? Who’s eternal destiny, heaven or hell, might you be able to change because of your relationship with them?
– What is your next step in sharing the grace you’ve beem given with them?

Key Scriptures and Quotes:

-Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
Hebrews 9:27 NIV

-For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 NIV

-Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:51-57 NIV

-Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15 NIV

-He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’ But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
2 Samuel 12:22-23 NIV

-When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord ; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.
Deuteronomy 18:9-12 NIV

-Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
Psalm 116:15 NIV
