Pastor Phil Vance

Qualify to Follow

Pew 2 You 11/10/2013

Highlights:

1.) With Jesus there is always hope. “Too late” is not to be a part of the Christian’s vocublary, for God is able to redeem even our hopeless situations.

2.) We must qualify to follow Jesus deeper.

3.) Followers who qualify, get in on SECRETS. -Jesus shares His secrets with those that are close to Him. The deeper you dig the more you will see.

4.) We qualify in the secret place for God’s secrets.

Discussion Questions:

1.) There is a reward for digging deeper into the things of God. As you respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit, what does digging deeper look like for you?

2.) Pastor Phil talked about “the secret place.” What is that like for you and how do you get there in your own devotional life?

3.) Evaluation: What kind of follower are we? Would you be one of the three. Which of the three, Peter, James and John do you relate with most and why?

Key Scriptures:

– Mark 5:35-37 NIV While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.

– Revelation 22:12 NLT “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.”

– Matthew 17:1-9 NLT Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus. Peter exclaimed, “Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.” The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground. Then Jesus came over and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus. As they went back down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
