When Good Isn’t Good Enough!!!
Highlights:
1. God alone is good and no matter how hard we try to be good, we could never be truly good.
2. The law exists, not to save us, but to show us that we need a Savior.
3. If you want to follow Jesus or get to heaven, you must sell your goods.
4. We must be sold out, all in, to really follow Jesus.
Discussion Questions:
1. What about the law still leaves us lacking in our relationship with Jesus Christ?
2. The bible says that where we invest what is valuable to us, that is where are heart will be. Jesus is interested in our hearts. Talk about the ways you are investing that is keeping your heart committed to Jesus Christ.
3. I want to follow Jesus and keep my ______________________. What is difficult for you to let go of in order to follow God? Let’s use the power of community to live more devoted lives for Jesus Christ.
Key Scriptures:
-Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man asked. And Jesus replied: “‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” “I’ve obeyed all these commandments,” the young man replied. “What else must I do?” Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I’ll say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked. Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” (Matthew 19:16-26 NLT)
-All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:12 NLT)
-“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. (Matthew 6:19-21 NLT)
-I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.] (John 14:30AMP)
